Mayowa Akande is a multidisciplinary artist working across photography, architecture, and design. His practice examines the intersections of space, identity, and cultural memory, informed by architectural training and an ongoing engagement with visual narrative and spatial inquiry.
Working primarily with photography, Akande produces conceptually driven bodies of work that combine documentary approaches with reflective and interpretive strategies. His images consider how environments shape lived experience, belonging, and perception, often drawing on architectural frameworks to structure visual and thematic inquiry.
In 2025, Akande’s photographic series Somewhere in Between was exhibited at BlackBox Gallery, United States, marking a significant development in his international practice. His work has received professional recognition, including a Highly Commended distinction at the Bath Open Art Prize 2025, winning the Chronos Design Competition (2021), and election to the Royal Photographic Society.
Alongside his studio practice, Akande contributes to community-focused photographic initiatives that support cultural participation and collective expression. Through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates design thinking and visual art, his work engages critically with contemporary spatial and cultural contexts.
