“Grief is the price we pay for love.” – HM Queen Elizabeth II

Dear Friends,

Today the team here at SeeingHappy want to pay our respects to the most famous and most photographed woman in the world, HM Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in Scotland on Thursday. It was a sad day for many people all over the world.

Most people have known her only through photographs and film, and yet we mourn a lady who has been a constant in our lives (most of us all our lives) through those photographs and films. We mourn her as a dignified public servant who dedicated her life quietly to her family and to her people. The accolades pour in but the words are the same: constant, dignified, devoted. She embodied the best in us. We admire the person above and beyond the office she held.

You might be wondering what to make of the ancient history on show for the next ten days in the UK.  The pageantry and traditions might seem to some out of place in a modern world. Perhaps we can look instead at what these ancient traditions give us: a moment to stop and reflect, to be mindful of the passing of a great lady, a point in time that is linked to hundreds of years of history and that will remain a moment for years and generations to come.

In our fast paced modern lives we can all learn the value of  attaching ourselves to something larger both in time and space, and to taking a little time out for quiet.

Here is one of our favorite photos:
