Dear SeeingHappy Community,
This month, SeeingHappy is sharing a new community photography initiative that asks a simple question: what does thriving look like? It joins the growing body of stories you have helped bring into the world: stories of joy and identity, of presence and belonging, of what it means to feel connected to life and to each other.
Together, these images remind us that seeing happy is not just something we do alone.
It is a shared practice.
A way of being with one another.
A movement that grows each time we pause, notice, and choose to see.
Over time, we have witnessed how a single act of noticing can ripple outward.
A photograph shared.
A story witnessed.
A moment that invites others to imagine what is possible in their own communities.
One such ripple began here:

THE MEADOW: LIVING IN RELATIONSHIP
BY PATRICIA FRIBERG
Reflection: The clouds mirrored in the glacial lake.
Connection: Hikers, once strangers, bound together by shared wonder.
Renewal: Resilient alpine blossoms, weathering the harshest heights, reminding us that every new beginning is rooted in enduring strength, meaningful reflection, and human connection.
This photograph, first shared through Visions of Renewal, carried with it a simple hope: to create space for reflection, belonging, and shared seeing. From that quiet intention grew a desire to offer something similar closer to home. What began as one photographer’s vision for her community in Thousand Oaks has now expanded into THRIVE: Ventura County, a countywide, sponsored invitation for collective participation.
Where the Arts Thrive for All
In collaboration with TOArts, SeeingHappy invites you into THRIVE: Ventura County, a countywide community photography exhibition exploring what it means to truly thrive.
THRIVE is a slowing down.
A turning toward what sustains us.
An invitation to notice the people, places, and moments that help our community breathe, grow, and flourish.
Through photography and reflection, we are creating a collective portrait, one made not of perfection, but of care, connection, hope, and lived experience across Ventura County.
The Invitation
Through the THRIVE lens, we invite you to respond to this question:
What does thriving look like?
Submit a photograph, along with a short reflection, describing why this moment represents thriving in Ventura County.
If you are not a Ventura County resident, we would still love to see you participate. You are warmly invited to submit photographs that capture where you notice thriving in your own life on SeeingHappy’s main photo submission form, wherever you may be.
Your photograph may hold a quiet gesture or a shared experience: time in nature, creative expression, connection between people, acts of care, or spaces where someone feels seen, safe, and supported.
As this ripple continues, we are already looking ahead. This Friday, we will be announcing our next open, public showcase initiative, another invitation shaped by community curiosity and imagination.
If you have an idea for a future SeeingHappy showcase, a place, question, or community you would love to see reflected, we would be honored to hear from you. Many of our most meaningful initiatives begin exactly this way, with a shared thought, a question, or a moment of possibility offered forward.
Thank you for being part of this global moment. We can’t wait to see what you’ll share.
With gratitude,
The Team at SeeingHappy
