This is Tiggy Marley this Fourth of July, two weeks before he unexpectedly passed away. I took a long road trip with him from the Jersey Shore, stopping in several cities, including Utah’s Moab desert, until we landed in our new home on the coast of southern California.
Tiggy Marley has been my companion for 13 years, and it was an epic road trip. A new friend I met earlier this year joined me on this long drive home. This photo reminds me of all the connections you can make in life, including the beautiful one that exists between human and their animal companion, and the excitement of the one that exists between new friends. It also shows me how the past and the present connect in such beautiful ways.
This night, for the first time in Tiggy’s life, we slept under the stars together looking at the beautiful canyons and the changing sky. He was so curious and excited to be outside for the first time, wandering the desert, and watching the wildlife with me. In light of Tiggy’s sudden death, this last road trip together gives me comfort that Tiggy lived a long and exciting life, and soaked up an entire continent during his last few weeks on eart.
Rest in peace, my little orange prince!
