Art For Learning Environments, Contrast, and Motion

Featuring Edgar Degas, Louise Nevelson, and Henri Matisse

This week we would like to introduce you to three more artists: Edgar Degas, Louise Nevelson, and Henri Matisse. Each one of these artists are trailblazers in the history of modern art. They each experimented with motion, contrast, and color, and challenged both artists and viewers to expand their perception of what art could be. Following up from Shige Oishi’s research on the Psychologically Rich Life, we are sharing examples from these artists and corresponding photography lessons to show how art can open your perspective to new possibilities:

If you did not get a chance to see last week’s lesson in art history, we spotlighted René Magritte and Georgia O’Keeffe to discuss inspiration for incorporating mystery and abstraction into your own photography.

Next week, we will be launching a library of photography prompts which falls under our program for building happiness through photography: Phlourish!
