Seeing Kindness

Dear Friends

Last week spotlighted a very special photo that came to us from Oksana in Ukraine. Oksana has sent us more photos which we would like to share with you this week:

LEFT HOME BUT HAPPY TOGETHER by Oksana Rybak
Refugees in Lviv (Ukraine) from Kharkiv. Kharkiv is a city in Ukraine, almost totally destroyed by Russian army during last 18 days (from 24.02.2022). Near 500 people were killed in Kharkiv, 14 of them - children.

Best friend and Antistress.

Oksana also shared some additional photographs taken after she returned to Lviv and visited a center for mothers and children. Take a look here:

We think you would agree that these are powerful images that attest to the fact that even in desperate situations there is human goodness, kindness, and hope.

It turns out that kindness not only helps the person who receives it, it also helps the person who gives it:

Even before the pandemic, here in the US we were talking about the “epidemic of loneliness”. Research shows that one way to combat this isolation – so important now we have suffered through two years of masks and quarantine – is to be kind and help others. Volunteering is one way.

Volunteering can lessen loneliness. It can improve our physical health. It can broaden our social networks. It can build our purpose and meaning in life.

And it helps others.

It makes sense – humans are social creatures and it feels good to do good. We like to feel that what we do matters and what matters more than helping another person?
