Discover your strengths

Dear Friends,

Our spotlight last week encouraged us to “retain our childlike wonder at the world and to be ourselves.” This week we are continuing the theme with a photo from Ana Pimentel.

We love the joy in this photo and the idea that each of us is enough just being ourselves. We all have strengths as well as weaknesses, and sometimes it is good to contemplate what those strengths are and how they can add to our wellbeing.

Mandy Seligman and Jill Sherman had a show of their images “Touching happiness” in Graz, Austria – you can see the photos here:

In addition, Dr. Philip Streit put on the show and organized something very special. He asked the young people at his institute, Institut fur Kind, Jugend und Familie, to take a look at the photos and to write a short piece about any issue they had struggled with that related to the photo. He then asked them to explain how they had overcome the issue using their strengths. The writings were very precious and we hope to show them to you in the coming weeks as soon as they are translated from German. We feel sure you will be inspired by the honesty and courage shown by the youngsters.

If you would like to find out your own strengths, you can register and take the test for free on Martin Seligman’s website:

It turns out that knowing and using your strengths more in your everyday life increases your well being and Happiness. We can all take a lesson from the youngsters in Graz and try to use what is best in ourselves to solve problems in our world.
