I chose this photo, which I took during the Toronto Pride Parade, because her smile represents the millions of smiles I saw that day. Some might say I have more striking Pride photos with elaborate outfits, costumes, and poses, but this one stands out to me. What makes it special is the pure joy she radiates. In the midst of a large crowd, she wasn’t performing for cameras or seeking attention; she was simply enjoying herself, living in the moment, and being her authentic self in a city that allowed her and people like her to shine. At first glance, it may seem like the big picture, but in truth, it’s a fleeting, beautiful moment within a celebration that united millions.
