Destructive Downpour

The relentless downpour, a consequence of a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal, had transformed Kolkata’s streets into waterlogged rivers. As the city grappled with the fury of nature, a stark contrast emerged: hand-pulled rickshaws, symbols of a bygone era, continued their daily grind. Their drivers, undeterred by the challenging conditions, navigated the flooded streets, transporting passengers from one point to another.
Beneath this seemingly ordinary scene, a larger battle unfolded. The frequency of extreme weather events, striking at unexpected times, had become a harsh reality for the city. Kolkata, like many other urban centers, was increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Its residents, caught in the crossfire of these climatic upheavals, were forced to confront the challenges with stoic determination.
