My name is Lisakhanya – it means there is still light.
My journey began in a township in East London, where dreams often felt distant, but I chose to chase them anyway.
I come from a family of resilient people who supported me with the little they had. I completed my matric during the COVID pandemic and those extraordinary circumstances shaped the foundation of my university journey, which had been the hardest chapter of my life.
As the oldest of the newest generation at home, I have chosen to be the example I never had. I strive to empower my younger cousins and the high school learners I tutor. Being a role model brings me deep purpose.
In my final year of my undergraduate degree, I lost the love of my life & my biggest fan, my grandmother. She was one of the few who truly understood my journey and how much I gave every single day. Her passing broke me, but I held on to the purpose she had for me and the future she believed in.
I completed my first degree and am now pursuing my second, because even in her absence, for her, I will do it a thousand times over.
