Keeping the river clean through sustainable livelihoods

The Buriganga River in Dhaka is one of the most polluted rivers in the world. Passengers travel on this river in launches, trawlers, steamers, ships and boats. They throw plastic bottles and polythene directly into the river. It is also a cause of pollution of the river Buriganga. The boy in the picture collects plastic bottles lying in the river Buriganga and earns his living by selling them. Being an uneducated person, he is unknowingly contributing to the prevention of river pollution. But it is through these educated people of the society that river pollution is increasing. So everyone should be more aware to prevent river pollution.
I took the image from Buriganga River in Dhaka when the boy was picking up plastic bottles from the river and collecting them in his boat.
