Echoes of New York

Dear Friends,

New Year’s Day is no doubt a time of celebration, excitement, and anticipation. With the year coming to an end, we here at SeeingHappy can’t help but smile when looking at the beautiful archive of happy-photos that you all have documented. Thank you to everyone for being an inspiration!

Today, we are excited to run a new segment in our newsletter called “The Happy Tribe,” where we will be showcasing a body of work from a member of the SeeingHappy Community. If you have a series of photos which can serve as a symbol of hope and optimism for our community, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team!

In light of looking back at the past year, we are very thrilled to share with you “Echoes of New York,” a photo archive put together by Brittany Sutton, an essential hospital worker and scholar of positive psychology. Brittany found that her camera could be a tool for making sense of the strangeness of a covid-embattled New York City, and that photography was essential in cultivating her resilience and hope during these troubling times.

In short, I was drawn to positive psychology because it is in nature, the science of what makes life worth living. I wanted to dig deeper and understand more of what goes on around me. Positive psychology not only transformed my life but it saved my life. I am so grateful to the science, my professors and the positive psychology community for filling the void I didn’t know I needed to fill. Thank you, Mandy and SeeingHappy for recognizing and showcasing my work. I am honored to be a part of such an impactful platform.

Brittany’s photos and writings are insightful, moving, and beautiful. We think you will agree – take a look here:

A big thank you to Lauren for creating the page – We are so happy to have such a dedicated and talented team working at SeeingHappy and on top of that, we have a lot of fun in our meetings – it always feels like a big hug after chatting together and planning.

Speaking of planning – SeeingHappy has many plans to roll out in the new year. We hope you will continue to support us and offer advice. Keep sending us your art 📸.

With gratitude,

The SeeingHappy Team
