the Gate Closing Festival of Dai nationality is a traditional festival of southern Buddhism. Early in the morning, women from the community would bring incense and rice to the temple to thank for the year’s harvest and pray for peace in the coming year. After the closing festival, people stopped working for a while and concentrated on studying Buddhist sutras and other traditional knowledge.
