I got engaged at the end of my MAPP program, so when planning my wedding ceremony, I just had to include Positive Psychology. I wanted to celebrate not only love but also the effect our community has had on us and its importance in our marriage. We decided to honor our community by having its members represent the values we cherish most in our marriage: love, companionship, determination, spirituality, friendship, and family. We chose people who we believe embody each value to come up, light a candle, and stand with us as we took this next step in our lives. We called it the Light and Hope Ceremony because, as long as we have our community, we have hope, and because these people represent the light that will guide us through the ups and downs in our marriage.
